SkillsUSA Oregon serves student and professional members who are enrolled in programs in technical, skilled trades, and service occupations. SkillsUSA prepares America's high performance workers and provides quality education for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. SkillsUSA builds self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills while emphasizing total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service.
Approximately 15,000 teachers and school administrators serve as professional SkillsUSA members and instructors. More than 1,000 corporations, trade associations and labor unions actively support SkillsUSA on a national level through financial aid, in-kind contributions, and involvement of their members in SkillsUSA activities. Many more work directly with state associations and local chapters. Oregon’s Industry Council involves industry representatives with education and provides the technical committees that serve the State Skills Championships.
SkillsUSA programs include local, state, and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. SkillsUSA programs also help to establish industry standards for job skill training in the classroom. SkillsUSA Oregon wants to build on Oregon’s success to become a recognized force in the national skills competitions, as a means to be recognized for the education of superior skilled workers.
